Gambino is a Mastermind

"This game is ablaze, call me arcade fire."

Donald Glover is an American actor and comedian that, stateside at least, has made a pretty good name for himself. He stars in a hit NBC comedy series called 'Community' which naturally I've never seen nor heard of and a few checks of little known search site Google suggest that, yeah, this guy is a decent sized deal over there. Piers Morgan, however, also has a primetime show in America now so maybe they just price mega big dickheads highly over there.

Donald Glover is also Childish Gambino. Childish Gambino is his rapping side project which, to be frank, has absolutely no right whatsoever to be as quarter as good as it actually is. I stumbled across his new single 'Freaks and Geeks' the other day and my God, this funny man has made the best rap song I've heard this year. He very much reminds me of Lil Wayne when Wayne hit that golden run of form where he had reined his crazy in just enough but was still off the chain line after line, bar after bar. I'm talking 'Da Drought 3' through to 'The Leak' EP and upto and including about half of 'Tha Carter 3' here. In fact, listen to 'Freaks and Geeks' a couple of times and tell me it doesn't remind you a fair bit of 'A Milli'. It's those handclaps buried deep in the beat and the flow that sounds like it's being made up on the spot as it flies outta your speakers. There's also a tonne of dirty ass lines about women which sum up Wayne from that era up until, well, present day really. The man has a song called 'Pussy Monster' lest we forget.

'Freaks and Geeks' is taken from a 5 track EP of the same name and is very much a hallmark of that mini album. DOWNLOAD IT HERE VIA PRETTYMUCHAMAZING. The songs are very concise and a lot of the beats actually sound like they could be culled from parts of electro indie songs. The rhymes are sharp as anything and Gambino sounds so urgent at every turn, like he's been waiting for this platform his whole life. Quite simply, I haven't been able to stop listening to these five tracks since I got the EP a few days ago. 'Freaks and Geeks' also has such a cool video. See that and an acoustic version of the song below, both are equally worth your time. People as multi talented as this guy make me sick to my stomach with my own mediocrity.
